5 Tips to Keep You Motivated and Help Ensure Your Sucess
In the second week of the new year, resolutions have been made and resolutions have been broken.
It’s always that way. Right?
No – It doesn’t have to be.
If you set yourself up for success, if you plan and prepare, then there is no reason to fail.
Last week we discussed 10 tips to start you on the right path to achieving your goals.
Today I am going to give you 5 tips to keep you motivated and ensure your success.
1. Break down your goals into steps that are achievable. Then give them a realistic deadline.
You will not complete your Masters in 6 months. But you can give yourself a 2-week deadline to research schools and fill out the initial application.
Pull off the bandaid – do the hard part –> Start
This works for any goal.
Break the goal down and give each step a deadline.
Each step is a victory. Each step gets easier than the one before it.
2. Find a mentor or role model.
Find someone who has accomplished what you want to accomplish.
If you know the individual personally or professionally, do not be afraid to talk to them. Gather ideas, tips, and advice.
Ask questions.
Model their constructive behavior.
If you have a good relationship, feel free to ask them to act as a formal mentor. Most people will feel honored and this will provide an additional measure of accountability for you.
If you don’t have someone in your circle of friends and acquaintances who can provide mentorship, then find an outside mentor.
Find out about their lives, their habits, their path to success.
Interested in running marathons? How did Jeff Galloway start? How did he train?
Interested in Crossfit? Research Rich Froning. How did he begin? What does he eat?
Interested in increasing net worth, starting a business, or launching an innovative platform or idea? Research Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg or Richard Branson.
The possibilities are endless.
3. Learn about the topic or goal. Immerse yourself.
Read. Research. Explore
Try out different gyms, run clubs, social clubs, or professional associations.
Put yourself in the vicinity of like-minded individuals and learn all that you can.
The more you know, the easier it will be to achieve.
4. Hold yourself accountable.
Do this in whatever way is most effective for you.
If you are naturally self-motivated, then keep track of the steps in your calendar or journal. Make sure that you put this somewhere where you see it frequently.
The individual steps to your goals should be appointments with yourself. Set aside time to accomplish each one and check them off your “To Do” list or cross it off the calendar.
If you need others to hold you accountable, then share your goals. Tell your friends and family.
Join those groups mentioned before and create relationships. Share your plans and don’t be afraid to put it out there.
Be honest with yourself and do what works for you.
But make sure you take your commitment seriously – after all, these particular commitments are to yourself.
5. Believe you will accomplish it.
Don’t go into this with self-doubt as that will only hold you back.
Make the steps to achievement small and attainable, then focus on one step at a time.
Make the obstacles small in your mind.
If you see yourself achieving these tasks, you will achieve them.
To that end, take steps to solidify an expectation of success.
Yes, I know this sounds “fluffy” – but it works.
It works with athletes. It works with inventors. It works with successful leaders. It works.
Believe it and do things that reinforce that belief.
Implement affirmations into your daily routine. Yes, they work.
Create a vision board. Yes, it works.
Celebrate each small step. Yes, it is a victory and it brings you that much closer to complete success.
Share your steps. Share your victories.
Make future plans focused on “after” you have completed the goal
Belief is an incredible motivator. Use it to your advantage.
Accomplishing great things is never easy but it is always accomplishable.
Prepare, Plan, and Do great things.
Conquer your goals.
And then make new ones!
