Keratin in a bottle – Review

As a 40-something mom and professional living in South Florida, the humidity, bipolar weather, and lack of time can make hair maintenance difficult. This is especially true in the summer time when hair frizzies are the norm and fly-always cause endless frustration.

Which is why I was so intrigued when I saw this product in my local grocery store – HK Keratinex Keratin & Omega 3 Shampoo and Conditioner.

Could this really be? Keratin-like results at home? From a bottle?

Although I knew that no results from a shampoo and conditioner could truly mimic the salon, I was interested to see if it could prolong my current treatment or at least offer some smoothing effects.

Unfortunately, the claims on the bottle were too good to be true.

The shampoo was a clear gel-like consistency with a strong medicinal odor. Something about the texture felt unappealing to the touch, almost like children’s slime as it passed through the hair. It did not cover the hair easily and I ended up using quite a large amount in order to get adequate coverage.

After rinsing, my hair felt somewhat stripped – like the feeling of your hair after a day at the beach. Despite still being damp from the rinse, my hair felt brittle and “dry”.

The conditioner was better. The product itself was thick and covered the hair and scalp smoothly. The scent was mild and reminiscent of light baby powder.

Waiting 5 minutes felt like an eternity (recommended conditioning time was between 3-5 minutes), but my hair felt so parched that I definitely wanted to wait the full five minutes).

The conditioner rinsed out easily and did correct the undesirable texture left behind by the shampoo.

Did it leave me hair keratin smooth? No.

Did it prevent breakage? No

Did it leave my hair noticeably improved? No.

Did it leave my hair conditioned? Meh – no more than usual.

Will I be repurchasing? No.

What has your experience been with this shampoo and conditioner? Have you had better luck?

Or do you have a better product that gives amazing results? Let me know – I would love to try your suggestions.
