I have a dirty little secret.
I love to watch YouTube videos. All kinds of YouTube videos.
And I love to watch make-up reviews and tutorials.
Yes, this 40-something-year-old mom and professional likes to watch millennials on YouTube experimenting with foundation, concealers, mascara, and falsies.
But despite the time spent watching these videos, I don’t usually succumb to the new product hype. I can wait to see overall reviews and make purchases only if I really need the beauty item (usually).
But not this time. For some reason, I am intrigued by the new Fenty Beauty foundation by Rhianna.
So, I did what any woman would do – I ordered it online at Sephora. Of course.
The foundation arrived in a nicely packaged frosted glass bottle with a pump and had a thin light consistency.
The next day I incorporated the foundation into my normal daily make-up routine thinking “Come on RiRi, don’t let me down!”
In my professional environment, I need my make-up to look pulled together and classy without being overdone and I certainly don’t have time for discoloration, oxidation, or touch-ups. I really need my foundation to last all day.
It looked good. The color was a good match and the finish was not oily or overly drying matte. Pores appeared the same as always, not enlarged – not less visible either.
Applying the product with a brush, the foundation was medium coverage and looked nice. But when I tried to add an additional layer to attempt a more “full coverage” look, it began to look a little cakey around the nose, forehead, and chin.
The foundation lasted most of the day without significant breakage or creasing and is a decent addition to my collection but will certainly not take the place of my “Holy Grail”.
A few days later, I tried again, using a Beauty Blender, instead of a brush – but I absolutely disliked the patchy light coverage result and ultimately used a brush to smooth things over.
Have any of you tried the new Fenty foundation or any other products in the line? What did you think?
