Embrace Progress: How to Fit Fitness into Your Real-Life Messy Bun World

If you’re anything like me, you wear dozens of hats between your career, relationships, family, and home life. And by the end of your shifts as a nurse, business owner, mom, or partner you probably feel utterly spent.

I used to constantly put my own wellness on the back burner, telling myself I’d eventually carve out self-care time and hit my fitness goals when things slowed down.

But by now, we all know that the mythical “slow-down” is unlikely to ever happen!

Our chaotic schedule always remains demanding across multiple roles.

And the truth is that we can’t afford to NOT prioritize our health – our health and well-being directly impact our ability to perform at 100% capacity in all areas of life.

Beyond fueling our daily effectiveness, consistent workouts are crucial for managing stress, boosting mental health, and fighting off the exhaustion that can easily overwhelm us.

Even as little as 20 minutes a day goes a long way!

With just a bit of planning, you CAN fit in meaningful movement anytime, anywhere.

Here are my top 5 tips:

  • Calendar in your workouts like any other appointment – set recurring blocks before things get double booked! Even a daily 20-minute living room HIIT routine or lunchbreak walk can have a massive impact on your energy level. For days when you have more time, schedule a fun workout class at the gym or log some miles on the peloton or treadmill instead of using them to hang your clothes.

  • Sneak in activities where you can. Small added movements such as pacing while on calls, squats during kitchen time-outs, or morning dance parties with the kids can add up. If you can afford it, standing desks at work can help add additional movement to your day while getting you out of those chairs.  These little bursts of activity work to alleviate stress and energize your body!
  • Make the most of transitional commutes by biking versus driving, utilizing parking lots or trails near the office for lunchtime walks, and adding extra steps by parking a little further or using the stairs instead of elevators.
  • When daily life feels like it’s becoming overwhelming, call on your social circle for motivation and accountability! Having friends to walk with or an online community doing the same at-home workouts can push you beyond your own excuses.
  • On the weekends, opt for family activities that will keep you feeling healthy while role-modeling the behavior for your kids. Choose a walk at the zoo, a bike ride at the park, or a day swimming in the pool instead of sitting for hours at the movies or lounging on the couch at home.

Fitting in regular sweat sessions truly takes your performance in EVERY category of your life to the next level – career woman, partner, parent and beyond! You’ll tackle obstacles with superhero resilience, lead with stable energy, and set the pace towards quality time when you make self-care the priority it deserves.

Studies have shown that

Fitness can be a Stress Slayer: Feeling overwhelmed? A great workout can be like hitting the reset button on your anxieties. Endorphins go into overdrive, melting away tension and leaving you feeling calm and collected.

Fitness can be a Creativity Catalyst: Stuck in a brainstorming rut? Exercise gets your blood pumping and oxygen flowing, opening up new neural pathways and igniting innovative thinking.

Fitness can be a Confidence Booster: Feeling the imposter syndrome creeping in? Seeing your body get stronger and fitter with each session is a major confidence boost. You’ll walk into that boardroom feeling like you can conquer anything.

Think of it this way: your body is your ultimate productivity machine. When you fuel it with healthy food and regular exercise, your energy levels soar, your brain fires on all cylinders, and you tackle challenges with the focus and resilience of Wonder Woman. It’s not just about looking good (although, hello, sculpted arms don’t hurt!), it’s about feeling unstoppable.

And the best part? You don’t need hours at the gym to reap the benefits. Even small doses of movement throughout the day can make a big difference. So go forth and conquer your world, one workout at a time!
